Michael Barth enjoys a diverse career as a freelance trumpeter, performing in a wide range of styles and ensembles throughout Ontario.
As an orchestral musician with a penchant for spending lots of time in his car, Michael frequently works with groups from Windsor to St. Catharines to Kingston and all points in between. He is an avid purveyor and consumer of brass chamber music, and is a proud member of Toronto’s Hogtown Brass and London’s Convocation Brass. Michael has been a regular guest soloist in Toronto’s ORGANIX concert series, and has enjoyed working in pit orchestras for numerous musical theatre productions.
Although heavily steeped in the classical tradition of brass music making, Michael has been grateful for opportunities to tour and record extensively with the Juno award winning rock groups Do Make Say Think and Charles Spearin’s The Happiness Project.
Michael is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Doctor of Musical Arts program, which allowed him to indulge his interest in new music with research into the repertoire for solo trumpet and electronics. When he isn’t practicing or performing, Michael spends his days running three small businesses, and enjoys reading, cycling, and recovering from cycling-related injuries.
